School Food Service
School districts save time and money on meals with Preferred Packaging’s
Automatic Conveyor and Manual Heat Seal Machines
School feeding programs are under a lot of pressure to serve food quickly and to minimize food waste. Preferred Packaging’s Heat Seal Machine helps do just that.
Numerous school commissaries use our customized IDX Extended Length machines to package portioned food daily for thousands of students. Instead of having individual school kitchens prepare food, ladle portions onto trays, clean up, and dispose of uneaten meals, cafeteria efficiency and economies of scale are reached using Preferred Packaging’s lidding machines and heat sealed thermoformed trays. Sealing trays is a faster and more efficient system than individually packaging trays with snap-on lids. Our solution reduces container material and the chance of food contamination. The film seal is thin—about one tenth of the weight of a standard lid—airtight, tamper-evident, and much lower in cost.
The entire meal is carefully portioned, packaged, sealed, and ready for distribution. Say today’s meal consists of an apple, milk and a sandwich. The three items are safely sealed in one tray. The student picks up the tray, tears off the lid film, enjoys the meal, and disposes of the tray. Instead of spoilage, meals that remain at the end of lunch can be served the following day. Thanks to the lid seal, the sandwich bread doesn’t dry out and the apple remains fresh.
